Visa Eligibility

How to apply for a VISA:
- Prepare the required documents for your VISA application.
- Submit the required documents at the Japan Embassy/Consulate-General in your country of residence.
- Pay for the non-refundable VISA application fee. (VISA Application fees: ¥3,000 JPY)
- You will be notified of the results by the embassy/consulate-general of Japan.

Citizens of the following countries will require an eVisa to enter Osaka:
- Taiwan (Visa exemptions are limited to passport holders with a personal ID)
How to apply for an eVisa:
- Verify the required documents for visiting Japan based on your nationality.
- Fill up the application form with the necessary information.
- Pay the non-refundable visa application fee if you are required to pay.
- VISA Fees: ¥3,000 JPY
Please apply for your visa as early as possible as the processing time can range from 2 weeks to 2 months.
VAT Refund
The standard VAT rate for Japan is 10% while the tax for food and beverages are at a reduced rate of 8% (excluding dining out and alcoholic beverages)
How to be eligible for VAT?
- Products are meant for personal use or consumption
- Items are to be brought out of country before use.
- For general goods, the sum of total goods purchased at one store on the same day must be at least ¥5,000 JPY, tax excluded.
- For consumables, total purchase amount should fall between ¥5,000 JPY to ¥500,000 JPY in at one store on the same day, and must be sealed and packaged in a way as to not be consumed before leaving Japan
- For departmental stores or malls with a tax-free counter, the combined purchase total from multiple stores must equal to ¥5,000 JPY or more.
- The total amount of consumables and general goods cannot be combined for tax exemption.
VAT Procedure
At the Store:
- Inform the store that you want to make a VAT Refund
- Present your passport (Copies not accepted) and confirm your personal details
- Receive your tax refund in one of the ways below:
- Pay sales amount with taxes excluded immediately.
- After shopping at each store, head to the tax-free bulk counter and receive a refund in the amount of the consumption tax.
- Your tax refund information would be digitally sent to the Japanese Tax Agency.
At the Airport:
- Present your passport to the customs officer, along with the tax-free items and their receipts.
- If you intend to check-in your tax-free items, please inform the airline staff at the check-in counter before checking in your luggage. A customs officer will come to the counter to check your item.
- After passing through the customs, your application for tax exemption procedure is completed and you are ready for departure.
